BEAR CREEK, WIS.––A recent surge in media buzz surrounding sauerkraut has caused the
largest sauerkraut producer in the world to brace itself for an incredible new year.
The Great Lakes Kraut Company––the maker of America’s leading brands of sauerkraut,
Krrrrisp Kraut and Silver Floss––says consumer interest in sauerkraut is at an all-time high
because of recent studies showing that sauerkraut fights cancer, and may even combat
avian flu.
“The tremendous media coverage about the health benefits of sauerkraut has nearly tripled
traffic to our web site, www.krrrrispkraut.com,” said Ryan Downs, the co-owner of the family-
owned Great Lakes Kraut. “Given the added interest, our company is doing everything possible
to make sure consumers have plenty of sauerkraut to bring good luck this New Year’s holiday.”
Eating sauerkraut on New Year’s Day is a long-held tradition that’s believed to bring good luck
throughout the upcoming year. The tradition also brings Great Lakes Kraut an annual spike in

demand. We’re continually updating our web site to answer consumer questions, and we’ve just
added several new recipes to provide sauerkraut connoisseurs plenty of options for preparing
this traditionally lucky food.”
