WORLD’S LEADING SAUERKRAUT MANUFACTURER SHATTERED ALL RECORDS IN 2005
Bear Creek, Wis.––As 2005 drew to a close, the Great Lakes Kraut Company, the world’s
leading Sauerkraut manufacturer, toasted in the New Year knowing it had shattered all records
made in the 2,000-year history of Sauerkraut.
Great Lakes Kraut produced more than 170,000 tons of Sauerkraut during the 2005 production
season–that’s 340 million pounds–which is estimated to be more Sauerkraut than produced by
all Sauerkraut manufacturers in Western Europe combined.
“We had an outstanding year,” said Ryan Downs, co-owner of Great Lakes Kraut Company.
“Technological innovations in our facilities and an excellent cabbage harvest allowed us to
produce a record-breaking amount of the finest Sauerkraut in the world.”
Downs explained that the innovation and bountiful harvest coincided perfectly with a substantial
increase in demand for the Silver Floss and Krrrrisp Kraut brands of Sauerkraut, the two leading
brands of Sauerkraut sold in the United States. New studies announcing the cancer- and flu-

fighting properties of Sauerkraut caused a flurry of media activity in the early fall of 2005,
triggering an increase in Sauerkraut consumption. Since fall, Great Lakes Kraut has seen a 20
percent total increase in sales.
Great Lakes Kraut is the largest Sauerkraut producer in the entire world. With manufacturing
facilities in Bear Creek and Shiocton, Wis., and Shortsville, N.Y., Great Lakes Kraut
manufactures America’s leading brands of Sauerkraut, Silver Floss and Krrrrisp Kraut––the
official Sauerkraut of Lambeau Field. For more information on the health benefits of Sauerkraut
